Southern California Philharmonic presents SYMPHONIC SPOTLIGHT for Pat Nixon Day of Service 2025.
Every year on First Lady Pat Nixon’s birthday, the Richard Nixon Foundation hosts the Pat Nixon Day of Service, inviting the public to the Nixon Library to learn about and get involved with organizations and charities that Mrs. Nixon championed before, during, and after her tenure as First Lady. This year, the Southern California Philharmonic will join this program to honor Pat Nixon. The Southern California Philharmonic is a non-profit, all-volunteer community orchestra comprised of dedicated, talented musicians in Orange County.
As a tribute to Pat Nixon’s legacy, the Southern California Philharmonic is proud to present a program of three pieces written by composers with disabilities. Pat Nixon championed the rights of the disabled, while her husband, Richard Nixon, established diplomatic relations with China through cultural means in the early 1970s. In fact, the Philadelphia Orchestra performed the Yellow River Piano Concerto in 1973, marking the first time a Western orchestra traveled to China.
Maestro Branden Muresan, conductor
Prof. Fred Benedetti, Prof. Anthony Cutietta, Prof. Eric Foster, Prof. Robert Wetzel, guitar quartet
Lynn Chavdarov Segrist, vocal soloist
Dr. Melissa X. Marius, piano concerto soloist
